Five years ago today, on 22 october 2020. in the midst of epidemiological restrictions, our JGL Pharmacy Museum opened to the public.
It can be said that in the past five years, the JGL Pharmacy Museum has successfully entered the map of our city’s tourist offer, as evidenced by the large number of tourists who specifically come to the museum in the summer months.
Regarding the research of the history of pharmacy as one of the main tasks of the museum, since its establishment, the JGL Pharmacy Musuem has organized four museum exhibitions, among which the exhibition “Alga Sušak – Guardian of Your Health” in collaboration with the Rijeka City Museum stands out, which was also a guest in Zagreb.
That the JGL Pharmacy Museum is fulfilling its mission of preserving the heritage related to pharmacy in our region is also shown by the fact that three memorial plaques have been placed by the museum at historically important places; a plaque placed on the building where the Pablo pharmacy is located in Gospić because the great Nikola Tesla lived there for nine years, a plaque on the Alga Palace in Sušak placed in collaboration with the Rijeka City Museum, and a plaque on the Pablo pharmacy building in Delnice, which commemorates the 150 years of existence of the pharmacy in Delnice.
The museum has also become the Expert Base of the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Rijeka for history students, while pharmacy studies from Rijeka and Zagreb also have a visit to our museum in their schedule and program.
However, what will be singled out from the museum as the greatest success in five years of operation is the fact that the majority of visitors to the JGL Pharmacy Museum are pupils and students who come in an organized manner from all over Croatia. In a modern and attractive way, with professional guidance, with the inevitable cream tube making workshop, groups of schoolchildren view the award-winning museum exhibition, learn historical curiosities and leave the museum full of positive impressions.
On the museum’s birthday, on Wednesday, October 22, admission to the museum will be free for all visitors with a 50% discount on all souvenirs!
